Lip aftercare.
Caring for your new lip color.
Blot lips periodically with a water wipe or damp paper towel until weeping subsides. This removes any blood or lymph build-up and prevents scabbing.
Apply aftercare ointment 3-5 times per day (or as needed) and drink plenty of water.
Use a straw for drinking and avoid salty, spicy or oily foods for the first 3 days.
Use a natural toothpaste for the first 3 days.
Avoid exposure to dust, debris or pet dander for 5 days.
Sleep on a clean pillowcase.
Do NOT rub, pick or scratch your lips and never touch with dirty hands. Do not pull off any exfoliationg skin. Allow it to slough off naturally.
No facials, botox, chemical treatments, microdermabrasion, tanning, or direct sun exposure for 4 weeks. Wear a hat when spending time outdoors.
No tweezing, waxing, hot or sweaty exercise, steamy hot showers, swimming, or sleeping on your face for 10 days.
No topical makeup or sunscreen on your lips for 2 weeks. Applying a lip balm containing sunscreen daily once healed will prolong the life of your permanent makeup.
Avoid cleansers and skincare products containing acids or exfoliants on the lips until fully healed.
Avoid direct shower spray on the lips for 10 days. Rinse shampoos and conditioners away from your face.
What to expect.
Day 1-2
Swelling and tenderness with a bright lipstick appearance. Color will not reflect your final result at this stage.
Day 3-5
Less swelling. Peeling begins. Lips will feel very chapped.
Day 6
A softer version of the color will begin to appear.
Day 7-13
Frosting phase may occur and continue through day 13 causing the pigment color to appear hazy or as if it has disappeared. This is temporary. Trust the process!
Day 14
Final color will begin to appear as lips begin to rehydrate. It may take up to 30 days for your final color results to bloom. Lips may remain dry for up to 2 months. Use a good lip balm and sunscreen during this time to protect your lip color and alleviate any discomfort.
Follow-up Appointment
It is highly recommended that you return for your follow-up appointment in 6-8 weeks. This appointment provides an opportunity to correct any issues that arise throughout the healing process and make any desired adjustments. Any touch-ups requested more than 12 weeks after your initial appointment are considered a refresh.
Refresh Appointments
Most permanent makeup will fade and require a refresh every 2-5 years. Color shift may also occur as the body attempts to metabolize the implanted pigment. This is normal and can be easily corrected with a neutralizing pigment shade during your refresh.
